INFORMATION ABOUT THE ISLAND OF RHODES:
The island belongs to the Dodecanese
group of Islands, situated in the South Eastern Mediterranean Sea.
The name Ixia is derived from a plant of the same name (Corn Lily),
and can be traced back to over 1000 years. It covers the area
between Rodos Town and Ialyssos Town.
Ixia is situated on the West Coast of the
Island; its bay is 8-9kms long and is bordered by hills and
mountains, which run from north to south. The landscape and flora of
the area consist of varied and typical Mediterranean vegetation -
cypress, eucalyptus, pine, lemon, orange, mandarin and olive trees,
and many herbs. The urban structure consists of old and new villas,
houses, hotels of all classes, shops, restaurants, tavernas, bars
and tourist shops. In between these are smallholdings growing
tasteful produce.

During the fishing season, catches along the Bay include
marides, gopa and kolios, which the fishermen sell directly on the
sea side. The beach is made up of varied
earth-colored pebbles, and 6m in from the water's edge the
transparent and clean seawater has a sandy sea bed.
Owing to the pleasurable climate and the fresh north wind which
blows especially during the summer months, the Rhodian City
population has had for hundreds of years a holiday resort in Ixia.
It is a delight to swim here and to enjoy water sports, especially
windsurfing.
